You're never too small to make a big difference

When We Come Back is a whimsical co-op puzzle platformer built around themes of joy, sustainability, and teamwork. It tells the charming story of two sea-faring children sent on a mission to reawaken a sleeping island and prepare it for the return of their people.

Working together, two players will explore a lush tropical paradise where fanciful pollinators enrich fertile farmland, verdant waterfalls support thriving forests, and futuristic machines draw energy from the warm island breeze. 

​

Gorgeous environments and lighthearted puzzle-platforming action make this the perfect game for younger players and casual gamers looking to kick up their feet and relax.

Join Two Young Adventurers on Their Quest to Revive a Perfect world

As part of a long tradition, our heroes have been chosen from among their community's children to journey to their people's solarpunk-inspired home city and prepare it for the population's return. ​With the help of a charming corvid named Merryweather, these intrepid youngsters will harness the power of fantastical machines left behind by their people in order to revive a centuries-old sustainable paradise.   ​In addition to exploring a flight friendly hub world designed to cater to untethered co-op, our heroes will also delve deep into the city's ancient megastructures to restore its sustainable water, agriculture, and power systems, as well as the natural ecosystems that thrive around them.

relaxing, retro-inspired platforming action

When We Come Back's gameplay is inspired by our favorite classic 3D platformers like Mario and Spyro. Players will run, jump, fly, swim, and dive through richly decorated environments, solving puzzles and activating machines that will help power their city.​​

 

Our focus is on creating fun, easy to understand puzzle platforming gameplay. This core experience is enhanced by a variety of items acquired inside the city's megastructures, each of which increases the player's ability to interact with our highly-detailed world in a unique way. On display here is our technical designer's personal favorite - the Butterflyer!

You'll find plenty of flight challenges, hidden collectibles, and tricky puzzles in When We Come Back, but not a lot of danger. This game is combat-free, and our forgiving level design allows players to quickly recover after platforming snafus or unsuccessful puzzle attempts. ​

create a more beautiful future

We've imagined a future where humans live in harmony with their environment. To us, this means designing sustainably-powered machines that nourish the setting they're built in, rather than extracting from it. 

​

Players will see this in action as they explore our highly-detailed world. Every puzzle solved or obstacle overcome will not only help the players progress, but actively improve the health of the local ecosystem, too! 

 

Even actions as small as pulling a lever can create new opportunities for plants to grow, release a burst of brilliantly colorful butterflies, or power a machine to fill a dry lakebed. Our goal is to delightfully surprise our players at every turn, encouraging exploration and joyful "wow!" moments to share.​​​​
